Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Jitin's age 3 years from now will be double the average of Jitin's current age and his age 8 years ago.
Formula:
Average of two numbers = (sum of two numbers)/2
Solution:
Let Jitin's current age be a.
Then, Jitin's age 3 years from now will be a + 3.
The average of Jitin's current age and his age 8 years ago is:
(a + (a - 8))/2 = (2a - 8)/2 = a - 4
Jitin's age 3 years from now will be double the average of Jitin's current age and his age 8 years ago. So, we have:
a + 3 = 2(a - 4)
a + 3 = 2a - 8
11 = a
Therefore, Jitin's current age is 11.
Jitin's age 5 years ago is 11 - 5 = 6.
∴ The answer is 6.
