Explanation:

Marking media is a substance that is applied on the surface of the metal to distinct the marked line clearly.

Different marking media are whitewash (chalk powder), Prussian blue, Copper sulphate, and cellulose Lacquer.

  • Whitewash/Chalk powder is applied to rough forging and casting surfaces. It is not recommended for workpieces of high accuracy.
  • Prussian Blue is used on filed or machine-finished surfaces. This will give very clear lines but takes more time for drying than the other marking media.
  • Copper Sulphate is used on filed or machine-finished surfaces. It sticks to the finished surfaces well. It is poisonous, so needs to be handled carefully.
  • Cellulose Lacquer is a commercially available marking medium. It is made in different colors and dries very quickly.
