Question
Download Solution PDFThe efficiency of an ideal diesel engine does NOT directly depend on ______.
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFExplanation:
Ideal diesel engine consists of the following four process
1. Isentropic Compression(1-2)
2. Constant pressure heat addition (2-3)
3. Isentropic heat rejection (3-4)
4. Constant volume heat rejection (4-1)
Cut-off ratio, rc = \({V_3 \over V_2}\)
Expansion ratio, re = \({V_4 \over V_3}\)
Compression ratio, r = rc × re
Efficiency, \(\mathbf{\eta =1- { 1\over γ \:r^{(γ-1)}}\times{r_c^γ-1\over r_c-1}}\)
∴ efficiency depends upon the cut-off ratio (rc), the compression ratio (r) and the isentropic index (γ)and doesn't depend upon the fluid pressure.
