What effort should a teacher make for the upliftment of Gifted children ?

Gifted Students are those who have advanced mental potential or extraordinary ability in one or more areas such as creativity, intellectual, academic, sports etc . when compared to another student of the same background.

Some Characteristics of Gifted Students :

• Advanced level of reasoning powers, logical thinking, and questioning attitude.
• Problem Solving Behavior
• Thirst for knowledge.
• Unusual alertness.
• Interest in experimenting and doing things differently.
• Excellent Memory and high speed in processing information.
• Highly developed curiosity.
• Wide range of interest ( extreme focus in one area).

Key Points

• Gifted students can be uplifted by special classes and motivation. Gifted student requires differentiated educational programs to realize their true potential and it must be remembered that they may not excel in all areas. 
• Gifted Students can not be uplifted by punishing, ignoring and using a slow teaching-learning process. Special Classes can be conducted to stimulate their thinking and opportunities to engage in divergent thinking. 
• Separate class and enrichment programs can be used to satisfy and utilize their intelligence. Identify areas in which a student has particularly shown improvement or growth, and encourage and motivate them to consider the next levels of challenge. The teacher can encourage and motivate the student and turn it into productive action.
• Motivate Gifted Students to take part in several academic and extracurricular activities. It is good to use their natural skills and abilities.

Enrichment Program for Gifted Children Includes:

• Grade Acceleration: It refers to advancing gifted students to more challenging and higher-level classes in a shorter amount of time.
• Enrichment in a regular classroom setting: It refers to include programs that are designed to give students the opportunity to try new things and develop an interest outside of the class.
• Arrangement of Special Class: It refers to " Congregated Gifted Class" which congregate gifted student to receive specialized instruction and training.
