The Mandible, or lower jawbone, is the only movable bone in the skull.

Composed of 22 bones (or 28 if we include the auditory ossicles), the skull is a complex structure. However, only the mandible among these is capable of movement. The mandible is also one of the most robust and substantial bones in our face. It forms our lower jaw, securing the bottom teeth. The term “mandible” has its roots in Latin, specifically the word “ mandibula”, which translates to “for chewing”.
