The Union Public Service Commission prescribes the UPSC CMS Eligibility requirements. Candidates appearing for the UPSC CMS Exam must ensure that they fulfil all these requirements. Any candidate who does not fulfil the UPSC Combined Medical Services Eligibility will be disqualified. Check details below.

  •  The candidate must not be above 32 years of age.
  • The applicants must have passed the final year MBBS examination from a recognized institute.
  • Age relaxations will be allowed to reserved category applicants.
  • Candidates must have valid documents to support their claim of fulfilling the UPSC CMS Eligibility.

UPSC CMS Eligibility Criteria 2025

The UPSC CMS Eligibility Criteria is announced along with the official notification. Candidates must carefully go through all the criteria in order to ensure their eligibility for the post. The UPSC Combined Medical Services eligibility criteria are defined in terms of the applicant's age, qualifications, nationality, as well as physical eligibility requirements etc. The details of the same are provided in the following subsections.

UPSC CMS Age Limit

As per the UPSC CMS eligibility criteria, the maximum age of candidates cannot exceed 32 years. There is no minimum age limit specified in the official exam notification. As long as candidates fulfil the minimum educational qualifications and do not exceed the upper age limit, they will be considered eligible. Age Relaxations in the upper age limit are provided for different categories, details of which are provided below.

UPSC CMS Age Relaxations

The UPSC CMS Eligibility allows certain age relaxation for candidates belonging to reserved categories. Details of the same are listed below.

Defence service personnel who were disabled in the battlefield

SSCO/ECO who have completed 5 years of service in armed forces as on August 1st 2023 and extension in the assignment of 5 years certificate issued by the Ministry of Defence

PWD Candidates

10 years in upper age limit

UPSC CMS Educational Qualification 

As per the UPSC CMS Eligibility, candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • The candidate who applied for the UPSC CMS examination must clear their MBBS and practical parts of the examination successfully.
  • The candidates who are in the final year or yet to complete their final year of examination can also apply but they need to provide the passing certificate and Internship certificate to the commission.
  • The candidates who are undergoing the compulsory internship can also apply to the exam but they will be recruited once after he/she has successfully completed the compulsory rotating Internship.

UPSC CMS Nationality 

The UPSC CMS Eligibility requirements state that the applicant must be an Indian citizen or fulfil either of the following nationality criteria.

i)A Subject from Nepal or

ii)A Subject From Bhutan or

iii) A Tibetian who came over India before 1st January 1962 who intended to settle in India Permanently.

iv)The candidates who are migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia Ethiopia, Vietnam, Burma with the intention of settling in India permanently.

For the candidates, i, ii, iii, iv; an eligibility certificate which had been issued by the government.

UPSC CMS  Eligibility 2025 FAQs

According to the UPSC CMS Eligibility requirements, the candidate should not be more than 32 years of age.

The UPSC CMS eligibility allows age relaxation for OBC candidates is 3 years.

As per the UPSC CMS eligibility requiremnts, the candidates need not require the prior experience.
