Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
20 men can finish a work in 220 days.
At the end of 90 days, 20 additional men are employed.
Concept used:
Total work = Number of men X Total number of days
Calculation:
Let, X more days to complete the work after 90 days.
Total work = Number of men X the total number of days.
Total work = 20 x 220
Total work = 4400.
Work completed after 90 days = 20 x 90
= 1800
Required work = 1800.
Remaining work = Total work - Work completed after 90 days.
= 4400 - 1800
= 2600.
Remaining work = Total men after new recruitment x X
2600 = 40 x X
X = \(\frac{2600}{40}\)
X = 65.
Thus, Work will be completed after 65 more days.
Alternate Method
20 men can finish a work in 220 days but the first 90 days done remaining days (220 - 90) = 130, then 20 more joined
⇒ 130 × 20 = k × 40
⇒ k = (130 × 20)/40 = 65 days
Thus, Work will be completed after 65 more days
