A is 20 percent more than B.

B is 30 percent more than C.

C is 50 percent less than D.

D is 25 percent less than E.

Calculation:

Let E = 100

⇒ D = E × 0.75

⇒ D = 100 × 0.75 = 75

⇒ C = D × 0.5

⇒ C = 75 × 0.5 = 37.5

⇒ B = C × 1.3

⇒ B = 37.5 × 1.3 = 48.75

⇒ A = B × 1.2

⇒ A = 48.75 × 1.2 = 58.5

Percentage by which A is less than E:

⇒ \(\frac{(E - A)}{E} \times 100\)

⇒ \(\frac{(100 - 58.5)}{100} \times 100\)

⇒ 41.5 percent

∴ The correct answer is option (2).
