Let the son's present age be x, then the man's present age becomes 4x.
According to the question,
After 6 years
4x + 6 = 3(x + 6)
⇒ 4x - 3x = 18 - 6
⇒ x = 12
Son's age = x = 12 years
And, Man's age = 4x = 48 years
Hence, The sum of their present ages is 12 + 48 = 60 years.
