यह चैनल की क्षमता C अर्थात् डेटा की जानकारी दर पर आधारित सैद्धांतिक उच्चतम ऊपर बंध को बताता है जिसे एक एनालॉग संचार चैनल के माध्यम से औसत रूप से प्राप्त सिग्नल शक्ति S का प्रयोग करके स्वेच्छित रूप से निम्न त्रुटि दर पर भेजा जा सकता है जो शक्ति N के योज्य सफ़ेद गाऊसी शोर (AWGN) के अधीन होता है। 

गणितीय रूप से इसे निम्न रूप में परिभाषित किया गया है:

C = चैनल की क्षमता

∴ यह एक चैनल पर क्षमता का माप है। और त्रुटि के बिना तीव्र पर जानकारी को संचारित करना संभव होता है। 

Forward error correcting codes also known as channel coding uses adding redundant bits in transmitted bit stream using Error Correcting codes before transmitting through the channel. It avoids needing retransmission of signal to check for errors.
