Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Initial ratio of salaries (Ravi:Suresh) = 2:3
Increase in salary for both = Rs. 4,000
New ratio of salaries (Ravi:Suresh) = 40:57
Calculation:
Let Ravi's initial salary be 2x and Suresh's initial salary be 3x.
New salary of Ravi = 2x + 4,000
New salary of Suresh = 3x + 4,000
Ratio of new salaries: (2x + 4,000) / (3x + 4,000) = 40/57
⇒ (2x + 4,000) / (3x + 4,000) = 40/57
⇒ 57(2x + 4,000) = 40(3x + 4,000)
⇒ 114x + 228,000 = 120x + 160,000
⇒ 120x - 114x = 228,000 - 160,000
⇒ 6x = 68,000
⇒ x = 11,333.33
Suresh's initial salary = 3x = 3 × 11,333.33 = 34,000
Suresh's increased salary = 34,000 + 4,000 = 38,000
Suresh's increased salary is Rs. 38,000.
