The voltage at which the channel of the MOSFET closes is called the “pinch-off voltage”.
When VDS is increased beyond the pinch-off voltage, VGS controls the channel current and VDS has little or no effect i.e. remains constant.
From the above characteristic of the MOSFET, the pinch-off voltage is given by:
\(V_{DS}=V_p=V_{GS}-V_T\)
where, VDS = Drain to source voltage
VGS = Gate to source voltage
VT = Threshold voltage

Given, VGS = 3 V
VT = 0.5 V
The pinch-off voltage is:
\(V_{DS}=V_p=V_{GS}-V_T\)
