Evolution from Chaturanga: The current form of chess emerged in Spain and Southern Europe during the late 15th century. However, its roots trace back to chaturanga, a similar but much older game of Indian origin. Chess has a rich history of evolution, with each culture adding its unique elements to the game.

Global Popularity: Today, chess is one of the world's most popular games, enjoyed by millions. It's an abstract strategy game played on a square chessboard with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight grid. At the start, each player controls sixteen pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two bishops, two knights, and eight pawns.
