  • Semantic Encoding: Information is encoded based on its meaning, making it easier to remember. For example, understanding the concept of photosynthesis involves semantic encoding, as you grasp the underlying meaning of the process.
  • Visual Encoding: Pictures and visual imagery enhance memory retention. When you vividly imagine a scene, you are using visual encoding to remember it.
  • Acoustic Encoding: Auditory information, such as sounds and words, is encoded based on sounds, enhancing recall. Remembering a catchy tune or a phone number you've heard before is an example of acoustic encoding.

Storage

For instance, recalling a friend's birthday without any hints is recall, whereas recognizing their birthday when reminded is recognition.
