The Sahakar Pragya Initiative is an effort to educate and empower rural communities in India to improve the nation's cooperative sector. The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) is organising the project, and the NCDC's Laxmanrao Inamdar National Cooperative Research and Development Academy in Haryana is assisting. The National Cooperative Development Corporation will provide training for rural cooperative societies through 45 new training modules as part of the effort. Sahakar Pragya Initiative: Objectives

The following are the important objectives of the Sahakar Pragya initiative:

  • To train the cooperative societies in rural areas with 45 new training modules with the support of
    • NCDC Schemes
    • 1000 Farmers Producer Organizations
    • Dairy Infrastructure Development Scheme
    • Fisheries Infrastructure Development Scheme
    • Agriculture Infrastructure Funding Scheme
    • Pradhan Mantri Matasya Sampada Yojana
    • Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro food Processing Enterprise (PMFME) Program
  • To educate the farmers about agricultural management using Primary Cooperatives.
  • To strengthen the cooperative sector and make it capable of shielding the farmers from unfair trade practices and unscrupulous traders.
  • To enhance the training capacity of NCDC by establishing 18 Regional Training Centers.
  • To educate and make the farmer community self-aware and self-sufficient to make the rural economy sustainable and aatmanirbhar.

About LINAC

LINAC (Laxmanrao Inamdar National Cooperative Research and Development Academy) is a training institute of the NCDC established in 1985.

LINAC is named after Laxmanrao Inamdar (popularly known as Vakil Saheb), the founder of Sahakar Bharti.

The LINAC envisions boosting the capabilities of cooperatives across India.

LINAC strives to develop a business and entrepreneurial ecosystem in cooperative societies.

Significance of Sahakar Pragya Initiative

The following are the reasons which make the Sahakar Pragya initiative a successful one:

  • Over 94 percent of Indian farmers are members of primary cooperative societies.
  • India has a network of over 8 lakh cooperatives with a staggering membership of around 290 million farmers.
  • The Sahakar Pragya initiative will strengthen the cooperatives and enable them to protect the farmers from undue agricultural risks.
  • Significant role of cooperatives in the Aatmanirbhar Bharat abhiyaan.
  • It will increase awareness and knowledge base of rural India.
  • Creation of a pathway for reaching out to farmers by means of cooperatives for the implementation of other policies.
  • Helping rural communities become aware of the actual price of their products and make them self-sufficient.

About NCDC

The National Cooperative Development Cooperation is a statutory body formed by an act of Parliament in 1963. The NCDS works under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

The NCDC headquarters is located in New Delhi, with regional offices spread all over India.

Objectives

  • NCDC's chief aim includes planning, promoting, and financing agricultural produce, foodstuff, livestock, and industrial goods on cooperative principles.
  • NCDC is the apex financing institution of the Ministry of Agriculture.
  • NCDC also provides lending facilities to cooperatives.

Following are the other Sahakar initiatives launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare

Sahakar-22

  • Launched Date– 24 November 2020
  • Implemented by NCDC
  • Aim– To strengthen farmers' financial condition and boost the pace of development by generating new employment opportunities for farmers through cooperatives.
  • The primary objective of Sahakar-22 is doubling the farmers’ income.

Yuva Sahakar

  • Launch Date– 14 November 2018
  • Implemented by NCDC
  • Aim– To provide cheap loans to startups in the cooperative sector.
  • To motivate and promote Indian entrepreneurs and businesses towards working in the cooperative sector.

Ayushman Sahakar

  • Launch Date– 19 October 2020
  • Implemented by NCDC
  • Aim– To support cooperative societies in resolving comprehensive healthcare services in rural areas.
  • A 10000 crore NCDC Ayushman Sahakar Fund for creating healthcare infrastructure by cooperatives was also launched.
  • Ayushman Sahakar scheme envisions establishing, expanding, renovating, and modernizing the healthcare infrastructure in rural India.

Sahakar Mitra

  • Launch Date– 11 June 2020
  • Regulated and managed by NCDC
  • It is a Summer Internship Program (SIP) scheme for students and young professionals.
  • Aim– To provide learning opportunities to young people and entrepreneurs from the working of NCDC and cooperatives and gain work experience as a paid intern.
