Causes of the Seven Years War
The causes of the war can be divided into two, namely immediate causes and root causes:

Colonial rivalry is the prime factor. Britain and France had competed for colonial empires in North America and India. Since each of these two nations wanted to expand its territory and acquire control over the revenue-generating trade routes, they entered into the war.

The fragility in hegemony among the European powers, more particularly a desire by Austria that Prussia return Silesia to them, created the framework. Britain's support for Prussia in the coalition constituted by Austria, France, and Russia fanned the flames.
