Question
Download Solution PDFA train travelling at the speed of 65 km/h leaves Bombay at 10:00 A. M. and another train travelling at the speed of 76 km/h starts at 12:00 P. M. in the same direction. At what distance (in km) from Bombay will they be together?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Speed of first train = 65 km/h
Speed of second train = 76 km/h
Time difference between their starts = 2 hours
Concept:
The distance where they meet = Speed of faster train × Time difference + Speed of slower train × Time taken together
Solution:
⇒ Relative speed = Speed of faster train - Speed of slower train = 76 - 65 = 11 km/h
⇒ Time taken to catch up = Time difference/(Relative speed/Speed of slower train) = 2/(11/65) = 11.82 hours
⇒ Distance from Bombay = Speed of slower train × (Time difference + Time taken together) = 65 × (2 + 11.82) = 898.18 km
Hence, the two trains will be together at a distance of 898.18 km from Bombay.
