Helical Gears:
- A helical gear has teeth in the form of a helix around the gear.
- Two such gears can be used to connect two parallel shafts.
- In the case of single helical gears, there is some axial thrust between the teeth which is a disadvantage.
- In order to eliminate this thrust, double helical gears (herringbone gears) are used.
- It is equal to two single helical gears, in which two equal and opposite thrust are provided on each gear and the resulting axial thrust is zero.
