(7x + y) ∶ (7x - y) = 7 ∶ 3

Concept:

The problem is solved using ratios.

Solution:

(7x + y) ∶ (7x - y) = 7 ∶ 3

21x + 3y = 49x - 7y

28x = 10y

⇒ Simplify to find the ratio of x ∶ y = 5 ∶ 14

Therefore, the value of x : y is 5 : 14.
