Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Sunil purchased a fan at a 10% discount on the labeled price.
If he had purchased it at a 15% discount, he would have saved ₹400.
Concept used:
Cost price = Labelled price × (100 - discount)%
Calculation:
Let the labeled price of the fan be Rs. 100x
Now,
After the actual discount cost price of the fan for Sunil was = 100x × 90%
⇒ 90x
Now,
If he gets a 15% discount then,
Cost price = 100x × 85%
⇒ 85x
According to the question,
90x - 85x = 400
⇒ 5x = 400
⇒ x = 80
So, 100x = 8000
∴ The labeled price of the fan is ₹8,000.
Shortcut Trick
A difference of 5% discount saved Rs.400
Then 100% → 400/5 × 100 = 8000 (Marked Price)
