Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
The average weight of 12 persons increased by 3.5 when a new person replaced a 58 kg person
Formula used:
Weight of new person = previous person weight + Increased × number of persons
Calculation:
According to the formula,
⇒ Weight of new person = 58 + 3.5 × 12
⇒ Weight = 58 + 42 =100
⇒ Hence, The weight of the new person is 100 kg
Alternate Method
Let average weight of 12 persons be x.
Total weight of 12 persons = 12x
If a person with 58 kg weight is replaced by a new person of y kg weight,
Average weight increases by 3.5 kg.
Then, 12x – 58 + y = 12(x + 3.5)
⇒ 12x – 58 + y = 12x + 42
∴ y = 58 + 42 = 100 kg
Therefore, the weight of new person is 100 kg.
